So my mom’s surgery has been cancelled. Her lungs had been filled with fluid due to her heart failure and when they drained them, one of them did not re-inflate. It is completely collapsed now. She can breathe fine with just the one lung, but it adds risks to having heart surgery. So they’ve decided to try other treatments for her heart instead. She’ll be leaving the hospital hopefully in a few days.
My brother brought up something interesting. My maternal grandpa died of collapsed lungs in the 70s, my brother had a partial collapsed lung a few years ago (it healed), now my mom has a collapsed lung. Maybe it’s genetic? Three generations now have had some sort of collapsed lungs. Maybe we just have weaker lungs. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
